Tim’s story: Competing again against the odds

Professional event rider and BE coach Tim Cheffings was competing in the Seven-Year-Old World Championship at Le Lion in October 2023, when a simple fall in the cross-country phase left him with a dislocated ankle and multiple fractures to his lower leg. As a self-employed rider, the injury threatened not only his season but also his livelihood.

Tim faced the daunting challenge of recovering while managing his business and horses. After emergency surgery in France to stabilise his injuries, he returned home but was unsure how he would fund the extensive physiotherapy needed to regain full strength and mobility.

Following recommendations from fellow riders, Tim reached out to the British Eventing Support Trust. Our team connected him with Injury Armour specialists, who devised a comprehensive rehabilitation plan, funding weekly physiotherapy sessions to accelerate his recovery. With their support, Tim progressed faster than expected and was back in the saddle before Christmas, a date that was far earlier than his initial prognosis.

Tim defied the odds and returned to full training and competition sooner than anticipated. By early 2024, he was preparing for the upcoming eventing season with an exciting team of horses.

“The British Eventing Support Trust took the financial worry out of my recovery, allowing me to focus fully on getting fit again. I cannot recommend their support enough.”
