The British Eventing Support Trust launches 24/7 Mental Health Helpline for competing British Eventing members.

The British Eventing Support Trust is proud to announce the launch of its new mental health helpline in partnership with Sporting Chance, a pivotal resource available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for British Eventing’s competing members.

Mental health challenges can affect anyone, with statistics from the mental health charity Mind revealing that approximately one in every four people in the UK grapple with a mental health issue each year. Recognising the pressing need for accessible and confidential support for sportsmen and women, the BE Support Trust mental health helpline from Sporting Chance has been established to provide vital assistance for event riders.

Sporting Chance gives charities the chance to offer a free and completely confidential service to their beneficiaries. Sporting Chance was launched in 2000 by former England football player and manager Tony Adams, MBE, who was inspired to act having suffered from poor mental health during his career. Individuals experiencing any symptoms of emotional or mental health stress, for example panic attacks, feelings of isolation, anxiety, insomnia or overwhelming thought can access help 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The partnership between the British Eventing Support Trust and Sporting Chance, enables the former to extend this crucial support to event riders.

By dialling 07780 008877, callers will be connected to trained staff capable of providing immediate assistance, offering a listening ear and guidance to navigate through difficult times. The BE Support Trust helpline offers eligible British Eventing competing members six support sessions at no cost if they need them. These sessions, available via telephone, Skype, or face-to-face meetings, are designed to provide ongoing assistance in managing and overcoming mental health obstacles.

“We know that mental health issues can and do impact everyone, including event riders, and we’re proud to be able to offer support. The importance of seeking timely help for mental health challenges cannot be overstated,” said Ian Stark, Chair of trustees of the British Eventing Support Trust. “Our goal is to ensure that British Eventing’s competing members can access help whenever they need it and feel supported and empowered to manage and overcome their situations.”

Colin Bland MBE, Sporting Chance CEO comments: “We are delighted to be offering support to the British Eventing Support Trust applicants who are competing members of British Eventing. Our charity has been delivering professional and confidential emotional and mental health support to elite and professional athletes for over two decades. We have witnessed the support and care being offered to riders through the trust and in this area, we are completely aligned.”
