British 5* event rider Bubby Upton faced one of the most challenging periods of her career after suffering a devastating fall in August 2023. The accident resulted in multiple fractures in her back, including a complete burst fracture of L3, requiring extensive surgery and rehabilitation.
Following her fall, Bubby underwent six and a half hours of surgery to repair the damage. The severity of the injury meant she faced a long and uncertain recovery, with concerns about regaining full mobility and strength. Despite the challenges ahead, she was determined to return to the saddle and get back eventing.
Knowing she had the support of the British Eventing Support Trust made a huge difference to Bubby’s recovery. Thanks to our support, she was able to access leading rehabilitation facilities at the Injured Jockeys Fund, allowing her to focus entirely on regaining her strength. The expert care and tailored recovery plan provided her with the best possible chance of making a full return to the sport.
Despite the severity of her injuries, Bubby made significant progress in her rehabilitation. With the financial and emotional support of British Eventing Support Trust, she was able to concentrate on her recovery without added stress. Her determination, combined with the exceptional rehabilitation she received, put her firmly on the path back to competing.
